Please dont fall for the FREE 30 day trial ! This Is A SCAM !
You will be billed.....
Why or how a company associated with the likes of yellow pages
can produce such a cowboy company as yell.com is beyond belief.
I can only hope that trading standards can stop them trading in the UK.

Hi there,

Thanks for your comments. Indeed, you're correct, the Heavyweight search results offer a service that many people will be interested in.

Unfortunately though, and the main point of this site, is that Yell DO NOT offer refunds if you're unhappy with the change.

My issue specifically is that Yell changed a standard advert to a mediumweight advert, and it is my belief that the mediumweight advert has a lower value than the standard advert, and I would like to cancel the contract. Yell do not accept it has a lower value and as such (so far) have not granted me a refund.

Hope this helps.

Well, i really don’t know where to start on this.
1st of all, what is the problem with heavy weight listings?? Surely, anyone with half a wit would realise and comprehend that the biggest online business directory in the UK would want to maximise exposure to customers / potential customers. Bottom line is that not every business is in the same boat, therefore not everyone needs or wants the same prominance / amount of advertising. Many many customers want prominance and dominance over their competitors and are on waiting lists to get a Sponsored Listing . So rather than wait 4 years to company gives it up (virtually impossible in Plumbers classification) they opt for a Heavy Weight. Secondly, its a widely held fact that those advertisers who are unhappy with the changes on the new Yell.com can get a refund – so whats the problem? Yell working with Google can only be advantagious to its current customers, think about it – most companies have fancy, elaborate websites that they’ve paid a fortune for, yet don’t optimise them so in effect, they’re collecting proverbial dust ! Yell is now ‘promoting’ their advertisers not only on Yell, but Google, Ask Jeeves, MSN & Yahoo – probably getting more exposure that EVER before. They put a call counter on to prove the leads sent through – what other company in advertising would do this? Every customer was contacted by letter to explain the changes, if you binned the letter, that would explain a lot.
I have had a good read of your site, its well put together, but it appears (correct me if im wrong) that its had all of 4/5 ‘disgruntled users’.........................In the grand scale of things............hmmmmmm.
Anyhow, I would like to add that I have purchaced 2 of the plumber Sponsored Listings for Plumbers in Sunderland & Newcastle & granted, I’ve paid out a few thousand, but the return I have had is 10 fold – bottom line is that you get what you pay for. If you want more calls, get more prominance, if you want to save on advertising and hope for the best, well cross your fingers because all the blogging in the world won’t geterate you business& stop your competition. Brand awareness is the key !

F.A.O. Mr John Condron

Mr Jake Papaiacovou
254 West End Lane
Horsforth
Leeds LS18 5RU

Yell.com account number 15808602 Acorn Building Services
Position 3 sponsored listing Order Number 5095845

I have never had so many problems with advertising before, being in the business for 15 years

Here is just but a few.
My name is Mr Jake Papaiacovou.
I am the proprietor of Acorn Construction (Leeds)..
With the recession as it is I decided some months ago to try and boost my workload with some advertising...after some carful thought I chose Yell.com to advertise with...
I took out quite a few adds with you approx 10 at this moment, and regrettably at this moment wish I didn’t, as there has been a catalogue of errors from the very start..
I phoned up about the ads and when the sales person (Amy furgison) new there was a few different adds she suggested that she sent a sales representative around, I agreed as this was only one week away, meanwhile the sales person on the phone(Amy Furgison) reserved me a sponsored listing that was available at the time.. I waited to meet the sales representative (Tony Emmot)as arrange with him at the time...1 day before he was due he called up and cancelled as he said he had over booked and can he make it for another week away and I agreed..a week went by and I was working in Manchester and called home to meet him at my address in Leeds...half an hour before he was due he called me and cancelled as he said he had to go to the hospital and re arranged it for another week..I eventually saw the sales rep (Tony Emmot) who was late the 3rd time but never the less he was there and we arranged the adds...I was astonished to learn that the sponsored listing that was offered to me was given to someone else because the reserve time ran out as the sales representative failed to call,, so I took 10 different adds out anyway, but I was very disappointed..
The sales person give me a date the adds would be live so I waited to see them... The adds didn’t go in when they was supposed to as I was told the sales representative didn’t process the order when he should have done so there was a delay in the adds going live..
Eventually the adds went live approx 3 weeks after they was supposed to then they was took out again as he didn’t set up the direct debit when he should have done, I contacted yell told them then the adds went in again..

The second blunder is that for no apparent reason 5 out of 10 of my adds was took of line for approx 2 months for no reason.. I called Yell.com and they apologised again, refunded the cost of the adverts while it wasn’t in,,, this was really unprofessional of yell.com..
Also I have spent hours going through the adds as they put the wrong numbers in the wrong areas etc..
The last blunder is that I got, was the biggest let down of all.......
I was contacted by yell.com to say the sponsored listing, that I had my name down for was available, after some discussions I decided to take the add and got the legal documentation sent over to me to signed and then I sighed it and it went back to the sales adviser, (Moniene Mcaferey) who said it would be up and running in 3 days...(I still have the signed copies with the order number 5095845) with this I was happy and waited for the listing to appear..
I kept checking the listings and after 3 days I phoned up and was advised not to worry and it would be there soon number 3 position sponsored listing etc..
I also got a call from Google saying do I want the top builder listing on Google and turned it down as id just signed up for yell.com..
After a week it still wasn’t there so I called again and was told the same....not to worry about it and that it would be there soon..after 2 weeks I called up yell.com to say it wasn’t there and was astonished to find out that the listing was given to another business 3 days after I signed up for it...I was astounded to find this out as I had lost my spot when I turned down the Google listing as well...the sales consultant was apologetic and said she was sorry but she forgot to reserve the add with reservations and that it was her fault...
I also had my name down for Position 1 informing customer services about this asking if they would be able to do the 1 position for the same price as 3 position for the problems and inconvenience I had with Yell.com and I was told by a (Mick Jamison) in customer service that the position 1 listing had been given away ...I was astounded by this and couldn’t believe my ears...after a few days I got an email from the reservations team asking if I still wanted the listing...I couldn’t believe this as i had just been told that I didn’t have the listing... so I called Yell.com and asked if I had my name against it and they said yes... I was astounded by this as I had been told days before that not only position 3 had been given away but posision1 had as well..when this wasn’t the case..
I cannot believe how I have been treat with a catalogue of errors and how Yell.com has made so many errors with my account.
I contacted customer services and was offered £100 off the positing 1 listing this is not really going to make a difference as I already spend thousands with you..
I have lost advertising space with Google over this as well.
At this point I really regret advertising with yell.com and feel very let down, I would have thought that they would be a reputable company but up to now yell.com have really made a lot of errors on my account...which is unbelievable

At this time I have reserved the position 1 slot in my name and would not find it unreasonable to offer me this slot at the same cost as the position 3.. given the amount of errors that Yell.Com have been made on my account.
If you look on my account it states just some of the errors that yell.com have made with the names along side...
Could you please confirm that you have received this email, and look forward to hearing from you in the very near future...
Ps just to let you know...I have the number 1 position reserved in my name till the 17th July
My contact details are as follows:
