Hi there,

Thanks for your comments. Indeed, you're correct, the Heavyweight search results offer a service that many people will be interested in.

Unfortunately though, and the main point of this site, is that Yell DO NOT offer refunds if you're unhappy with the change.

My issue specifically is that Yell changed a standard advert to a mediumweight advert, and it is my belief that the mediumweight advert has a lower value than the standard advert, and I would like to cancel the contract. Yell do not accept it has a lower value and as such (so far) have not granted me a refund.

Hope this helps.

Well, i really don’t know where to start on this.
1st of all, what is the problem with heavy weight listings?? Surely, anyone with half a wit would realise and comprehend that the biggest online business directory in the UK would want to maximise exposure to customers / potential customers. Bottom line is that not every business is in the same boat, therefore not everyone needs or wants the same prominance / amount of advertising. Many many customers want prominance and dominance over their competitors and are on waiting lists to get a Sponsored Listing . So rather than wait 4 years to company gives it up (virtually impossible in Plumbers classification) they opt for a Heavy Weight. Secondly, its a widely held fact that those advertisers who are unhappy with the changes on the new Yell.com can get a refund – so whats the problem? Yell working with Google can only be advantagious to its current customers, think about it – most companies have fancy, elaborate websites that they’ve paid a fortune for, yet don’t optimise them so in effect, they’re collecting proverbial dust ! Yell is now ‘promoting’ their advertisers not only on Yell, but Google, Ask Jeeves, MSN & Yahoo – probably getting more exposure that EVER before. They put a call counter on to prove the leads sent through – what other company in advertising would do this? Every customer was contacted by letter to explain the changes, if you binned the letter, that would explain a lot.
I have had a good read of your site, its well put together, but it appears (correct me if im wrong) that its had all of 4/5 ‘disgruntled users’.........................In the grand scale of things............hmmmmmm.
Anyhow, I would like to add that I have purchaced 2 of the plumber Sponsored Listings for Plumbers in Sunderland & Newcastle & granted, I’ve paid out a few thousand, but the return I have had is 10 fold – bottom line is that you get what you pay for. If you want more calls, get more prominance, if you want to save on advertising and hope for the best, well cross your fingers because all the blogging in the world won’t geterate you business& stop your competition. Brand awareness is the key !
